I was born with retinitis pigmentosa, but I have never allowed my visual impairment to impair my life.
For 26 years I was a cement worker in the construction field all over the United States. Several years ago, my vision decreased and I received services at Clovernook in Memphis. Although my vision grew worse, I didn’t allow myself to become defeated. I first worked at Clovernook in the manufacturing area and received rehabilitation services in Braille, daily living skills and job placement.
With a lot of hard work and the assistance of the great folks at Clovernook, I received 350 hours of training at a culinary academy. I secured a job as a sous chef at a metropolitan sports arena, preparing meals for the owners, players and fans of an NBA basketball team.
My dad always told me “You can do it.” With Clovernook’s help I know I can.
