I was referred to Clovernook in 2002 for a low vision evaluation and job development services. I had been recently laid off, and my goal was to find employment that involved using or instructing others in the use of computers. I had a number of years of experience primarily in the Macintosh environment, and had also worked as a sub-contractor for web design. It was determined through my low vision evaluation that I could benefit from magnification devices, and also that I was a potential candidate for special driver training offered through the Ohio State School of Optometry.
While working with my job developer, I applied for the part-time computer instructor position posted by Clovernook’s rehabilitation department. My skill and enthusiasm for the job did not go unnoticed, and I was hired in March 2003. Since that time I have been expanding my knowledge with Windows applications, Jaws, Zoomtext.
In addition to a job, Clovernook’s services enabled me to recently complete Ohio State’s bioptic driver training program Thanks to my low vision evaluation and the dedicated staff at Clovernook, the hope of being able to drive has a reality. I feel my experiences will be an asset as I teach others about how to access computer technology.
