Volunteers play a vital role in every aspect of our operation at Clovernook Center
for the Blind and Visually Impaired. They support the mission and vision of our
organization. They extend the reach of our talented staff. And, they touch the lives
of our consumers with many positive contributions and selfless compassion.

You can assist in helping Clovernook fulfill our mission, “ To promote independence

Transportation
Transport individuals to and from medical appointments, meetings, activities, shopping,
and occasionally the bus station or airport. This may involve picking up the individual
at Clovernook or at the individual's home. Clovernook has vehicle(s) available or
use your own car and Clovernook will reimburse you for mileage.

One-to-One
This volunteer role involves a one-to-one relationship with a blind or visually
impaired person. It includes companionship, recreational activities, and developing
a trusting relationship.

Reader
Some individuals need sighted assistance to read mail (or write letters to sighted
family, friends, or businesses), label household items, and assist them in Brailing
directions or other materials, which are typically only available in print. This
may also include reading materials onto tape for those who do not read Braille.

Copyholder
Works in our Braille production facility reading print copy with a blind person
who checks the Braille copy for accuracy. This is a regularly scheduled Position
generally 1/2 day or 1 day per week.
Volunteers have many talents and interests.
Music lessons, aerobics, swimming, cooking, arts and crafts, bicycling - you tell
us what your interests are. We will try to match you with a client who has the same
interests or get you involved in Clovernook's work in a way that utilize your unique
talents and skills. |
